illogical computer’s Top 150 of 2012 (125-101)

11 Flat illogical computers top 150 of 2012 (125-101)Here’s part 2 of our 6 part countdown of the top tracks of 2012.  Evy Jayne’s gripping track “Sayso” comes in at 126 in our countdown and we’re really eager to hear more material from this truly interesting R&B artist in 2013.  Following closely is “Teary Eyes and Bloody Lips” by the on and only Moonface (with Siinai).  Moonface’s new LP is a definite accomplishment and is sitting pretty comfortably in our favorite albums of 2012 list -highly recommend.   Wild Belle and Allo Darlin’ lighten the mood a bit with “Keep You” and “Tallulah”, respectively; both tracks being total sleepers in 2012 (for whatever reason).  El-P’s excellent “The Full Retard” added a dash and a half of rudeness to 2012 and we had to recognize it as such. “Know Me” was the lead single off of Frankie Rose’s truly excellent Interstellar LP and it was a scorcher.  That album is solid from it’s opening seconds to it’s excellent conclusion and, at the risk of stating the obvious, ..we really like it.  Lower Dens’ basically reinvented themselves this year.  To be honest, we really liked them before, but we love them now.  ”Propogation” is one of several standout tracks from Nootropics and it was a sure thing for this list from the first moment we heard it. Jai Paul dropped the second track of his career, “Jasmine,” this year and made it into our favorites list for the second time.  I wonder what would happen if this guy ever gave us an actual collection of songs.  Peaking Light’s meditative Lucifer was released this year and the highlight of that record has got to be “Beautiful Son.” Maybe it’s better than 108, but hey.. it’s been a really really great year for music -it’s hard to judge these things.  Lambchop surprised the hell out of me personally with a really unusual sound that has forced me to acknowledge that the country music genre is capable of some seriously good things.  Best Coast’s wonderful ode to California won my heart the first time I heard it and makes it into the illcomputer’s countdown at number 106.  At 105 is a band that I had never heard of until a friend placed them under my nose fairly recently; The Neighbourhood’s “Female Robbery” has got to be one of the most surprisingly catch tracks of the year -I couldn’t stop listening to it. Ariel Pink’s “Only In My Dreams” was immensely popular this year with indie music fans and for good reason, the track perfectly encapsulates the Ariel Pink phenom and I think I’ve spun it at lest 700 times since it came out.  Finally, I have to mention Matthew Dear’s wonderful “Earthforms.”   I had really high expectations for Matthew Dear after his wonderful Black City LP a few years back and he has totally exceeded these by releasing two excellent albums back to back, in one year, Beams and Headcage. It’s been a really great year for music.
