illogical computer’s Top 150 of 2012 (150-126)

11 Flat illogical computers top 150 of 2012 (150-126)We’ve got a very eclectic group of tracks rounding out our personal top 150.  Daphni’s beastly “Yes, I Know” with it’s throbbing bass lines comes in at #150 followed by Walrus’ uber-delicate “Growing Pains.”  These two tracks exemplify the tremendous variety of music that finds itself in our top list this year.  The Walkman’s stellar 2012 LP makes it’s first appearance at 147 with “Song For Leigh,” a track that probably deserves the award for gut wrenching refrain of the year.  The Shins’ polished new sound makes it into the countdown with “Simple Song”, a song that earned the band a huge increase in fan numbers for 2012 -i think they might even be on MTV now (yikes).  A scorcher from Lone and a truly moving track from the one and only Frank Ocean enter the list at 144 and 143, respectively.  Square Pusher’s “Dark Steering” is a brutally interesting experimental electronic track that we couldn’t ignore this year as was the Elite Gymnastics remix of Korallreven’s “Sa Sa Samoa.”  John Talabot makes his first appearance at 133 with his agonizingly beautiful “Destiny”. Talabot’s album is an absolutely gorgeous work of art that everybody needs to purchase. Personal indie heroes Magic Wands’ “Space” is pure sci-fi meets indie rock at number 132 followed closely by a group that is probably going to EXPLODE in 2013, AlunaGeorge, with their wonderful “You Know You Like it”.  Sleigh Bells had a great year and have made it into our top tracks list with their power ballad “End of the Line,” which is basically like a pure high school rebellion meets tragic love rock song.  Oliver Tank’s “Help You Breathe” gained a bit of recognition on the blogosphere this year, but not enough in our opinion.  His sound lies very much in the vein of the post-dubstep movement that gained traction last year, but is a bit more analog sounding at times.  We’re hoping for more from Oliver in 2013.  Finally, we had to throw in “1-800″ from the very indie group Roads and Boats for it’s perfectly captured retro feel and pure nod-ability.
